FORM, SPACE & EXPERIENCE

A final attempt to grasp our understanding of form, space and experience were what this module was all about.

We began by reading the surreal poems of Arthur Rimbaud, a french poet. honestly, his writings were so very dense that even today the literal transcriptions of what his poems were trying to say are a blur. The way he writes, those unusual comparisons that can be interpreted with multiple meanings were thought-provoking

first stage

The first stage was to associate this poem with some objects. not the word-to-word associations but going beyond that to its experience it's giving.

This stage was very difficult for me personally, as I was you know not much good with poems.

second stage

The second stage was to articulate the experiences that our poem was giving through some installations using with or without the objets one collected.

My poem had these one experience we're looking at will make u feel at ease. That is what I carried forward is something that gives a visible sense of ease such as looking at it will make you want to intervene with it as if u surely know this will make u at ease but you can because when interacting isn't much comfort.

So i got these sit kind of thing made up of resin that i got from the college. the idea was that the column is melting into a tempting sit kind of thing full of lumps and spreading across the floor.

For obtaining these bulges and flow i added a net across that resin sit and shaped it into those lumpy forms. followed by covering the whole thing using tissue papers.

Tissue papers were particularly chosen as to match with the shade that of column.

Obtaining those curves was a difficult task. The whole thing was achieved in a span of three days with the help of lots of people from staff to friends and also lots and lots of tissue papers.

third stage

comprehending these experiences through a text.

I tried to narrate them through fictional encounters and in a very dramatic way so to say.

" It was midnight, Lily was ready for a daily night stroll, she stepped out of the house, just to see  An enormous and voluminous lump had consumed the bottom of the column that stood in darkness right in front of her. This bulgy swelling had altered its form in odd ways. It was spreading its way across and around like a contagious infection, like a wildfire. Knobbly uneven lumps popping, extending, expanding, smoothing out as if the skin is enlarged, melted, and is creeping its way down. What was going on? lily asked herself.

This lumpy material is stretching down, giving rise to curvy edges and making its way all over the flooring. Appearing as if the column has erupted somehow and is outpouring like a flow of lava. Expanding till miles, flowing and flowing, till it finally has let it all out. Bumpy lumpy waves forcibly take possession of the accessible space. Breaking, folding, twisting, curving, entwined, bent, turned, humped, and incurved all over the floor made a unique fusion of strange forms. Before she could start making sense of the whole situt, It had already started making its way towards her with full speed. lily starts to run, running towards darkness."

fourth stage

fourth stage involved making drawings to express our written texts.

fifth stage

The last and final stage included people having the same overall experience but with different aspects coming together to form a larger narrative that evoked these forms through a performative act.

Ours focused on the varied FORMS. After several trials and errors of the medium for this representation, we got inspired by contemporary dance forms and tried to have these multiple forms using just the 8 of our bodies. our act consisted of these gestures of absurd walks, pinch, breaking, knots, lumps, and movements in our performance.
